Hi, Alois

There is something about this serve that I am thinking about. First, When serving side-spin, is it better to do it on the side of the ball, or on the back of the ball. Second thing, I am trying to serve side spin, side spin top spin, and side spin backspin with the same movement of my arm, but, I don't really understand how to do it. Can you help me with this? Thanks

Hi Sasha,

You can hit it either way.  Try both and see which feels more comfortable for you.

For the deception of sidespin and topspin and backspin you need to think about the timing of your contact.  If you hit the ball earlier in your swing when the bat is going downwards you will get backspin.  If you hit it later when the bat is going up you will get topspin.

We cover this in depth in our Serving Secrets lessons.

I am trying on the side spin as well and I'm only ten and I can't make the side spin very well. Can you tell me more about his information because I am going to the junior tournament.

Hi Sovan,

This is something that you can get the feel for away from the table.

While away from the table see if you can get the ball to curve on the floor.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
