Sir,

I wanted to know from which part of the bat I had to contact the ball to execute the side spin forehand topspin. What is the ideal timing to brush the ball- at the level of my hip?

Thanking you in anticipation

Deepak.

Hi Deepak,

I like to contact it close to the front edge of my bat as it is coming through with the wrist down.

I also think around hip height is comfortable to make the stroke.

Remember it is an advanced shot and not one that should be used as a standard stroke.  It is fun to play it though.

Yes Sir, you are right, fun to play especially when the ball curves wide into the open part of my opponent. And when he tries to attend it with his tooth and nail, the ball after bouncing on the table deviates yet again far from him, giving me a point.

Is there any reason i should not try playing this shot, coach? Time an again Iv heard people saying its an advanced stroke and you shouldn't try it before mastering the pure topspin loop. But I'm pretty good at this stroke and I find it pretty handy although I do not practice it and have not tried it in a match.Im also pretty consistent with my forehand loop although I'm no master ,So should start using this stroke in a match as it gives me more chances of finishing and winning the point?

Yes you can use it.  It is good to experiment and allow the wrist to find new positions.  Just remember that it has limitations when trying to hit the ball faster.
