Strokes
I grew up play by holding my racket kind of like the shakehand grip but with my thumb on the same side of the paddle as my index finger. Will this limit me and should I switch to the normal shake hand grip.
Thanks
Hi Mason,
I would certainly give the traditional grips a try.
The index finger and thumb on the same side will limit the flexibility of the wrist and also the use of one side of your bat. Do you tend to use the one side of the racket all the time?
Give the shake hand grip a try and see how you get on. It shouldn't be a big change.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
