Strokes
hi
i have seen players with great talent hit the ball around the net when it is wide enough. this is my favorite shot. ive seen players hook the ball around the net and also flat hit it around the net. in what situation would i flat hit it and in what situation would i hook it with sidespin? also any other tips on around the net shots would be awesome
thanks,
Daniel
Hi Daniel,
This is a bit of a party trick and one that looks really spectacular and get the crowd pretty excited.
If the ball is really wide you can do any of your options, The sidespin shot is better if you are not too wide and need to curl the ball around the net. If it is really wide you have a clear path to the table and can hit it flatter.
Having said all of that, the round the net may not always be the best option off the wide ball. Sometimes it is better to just topspin the ball back across court as the round the net shot could be a bit more risky.
Most players are told to always return to the ready position after every stroke but that might be hurting your game. In this video, we reveal a smarter way to recover:
✔ Track the ball immediately after your shot
✔ Move your racket into position for the next shot instead of blindly resetting
✔ Improve your timing, balance, and flow during rallies
Whether you’re a beginner or advanced player, understanding this subtle change can have a big impact on your consistency and speed around the table.
