Hi Alois,

I was just viewing the "serving secrets revealed" and i have a question related to all types of serves.

I noticed that you are able to get the ball pitch twice or more on the opposite side so easily. What i was trying to figure out is that after the ball contacts the bat what is the depth of the ball from the net when it pitches first on the table on the server's side.

Often i wonder should the first pitch be closer to the server (edge of the table) or closer to the net or middle. Does it even matter at all ?

It was difficult to figure this out from the camera angle. Most of the times the camera was at the receiver's end. some of the serves were shown with the camera behind the server but i was not able to come to a conclusion.

Regards,

Hi Jagadish,

Firstly focus on your target and the first bounce will start to fix itself.  But as a shortcut, you will find that the first bounce is close to you on the table.

This will start to happen naturally if you focus on serving the ball short and fast at a target about 30cm from the net.  You will find that if you pitch the ball too close to the net on your side it doesn't have enough time to get up and over the net.

Give it a try.
