Hi Alois. I am struggling to serve short  with lots of sidespin or backspin. When I try to get lots of spin it goes long so I have a good long serve but I am finding that my opponents are returning my serve well. Please could you help me serve short with lots of spin. Thanks Thomas

Hi Thomas,

The difference between the serve going short and long is the contact.  The finer the contact with the same swing the shorter the ball will go.  Don't slow down your swing just get the contact finer.  You will find that sometimes when you feel like you are mishitting the ball it will go short.  That is almost the contact you want.

Hello,

I am not sure about this for a fact, but lots of players I see on videos tend to pull away their racket away right after they contact the ball during the serve and I think it is to make the short finer, would you agree and suggest this. If not, then are there any particular things we keep in mind to make the contact finer.

Thanks

Hi Arnab,

It is mainly focusing on the angle of the blade.  The whipping action will help to get speed to the contact but the angle is the critical factor for getting the fine contact.
