Receiving
hello
my name is venkatachalam. when i was playing against someone my oponent is serving a serve with lots of spin. I am trying to chop it and it is going outside the board. please help how to take it.
Hi Venkatachalam,
When they are serving with a lot of spin make sure you are watching the contact of the bat on the ball.
Then see which way the ball is curving in the air. This will give you some information as to the spin on the ball.
It is a lot of trial and error with returning serve. Also watch which way the ball goes after it hits your bat. The try to adjust just the angle of your racket. If the ball goes off to the left then face your racket more to the right and vice versa. If the ball goes too high, turn your bat over the ball and if it goes into the net then turn your bat backwards.
We have a Course on Receiving Secrets which goes through the principles of receiving spin. Once yo master these principles you will be able to recognise more easily the spin and also have ways of coping better with the spin.
