Serve point of contact

Hi Alois

when people talk about serve point of contact, they normally talk about the VERTICAL point of contact (i.e. height of ball when you hit it) which I understand is about net height.  But what about the HORIZONTAL point of contact from the table?  Should I always be trying to make contact with the ball as close to the end of the table as possible?  Or are there situations where it is better to strike the ball further back from the table?  I notice with professionals when they hold the ball on their palms it is often over the table itself.

Cheers

Hi Ji-Soo,

In general you should contact the ball as close to the end line as possible.  Any further back and you are giving your opponent more time to see the flight and spin on the ball.
