Hi Nick,

I think one of the best things is to use multiball.

Get them to feed the ball out at a quite fast rate so that you need to react quickly to return the ball.

You can also do random drills if you have a better partner that can hit the ball at a good pace to you as well.  A random drill is one where you don’t know where the ball is coming.  This make the drill more game like and helps you to practice reacting to the ball quicker.

The other important thing is to watch the ball carefully.  This will buy you some extra time.

#33 - Defending with the Block

One thing you can be sure of is that every top player will be able to keep the ball on the table with a solid block when under pressure. It seems that this is a pre-requisite to becoming a good player. That's why in this training session we focus on improving your block. If you can absorb your opponent's attack you will be in a good position to win a match against them.

I've read somewhere that reflex actually stems from repetitive moves. In other words, let's say if you want to improve your blocking reflex, first you need to have a solid foundation of blocking technique. And then do plenty of multiball training. And also, as the coach said, you will have more time if you watch the ball and your opponent closely. Hope this helps.
