Hi Guys,

When I play the forehand pivot I struggle to get to the next ball if its played to my wide forehand. My question is should i play the shot slower or is there any of making sure that can help me get to the next ball.

Thanks

Hi Laurence,

When you pivot you are really committing yourself.  You need to play a good stroke from that position.

The shot can either be a fast shot that is difficult to return or it needs to be placed well or preferably both.

It is good to play the ball cross court from there most of the time.  If you play down the line, it will leave the whole open for your opponent to hit the ball wide to your forehand.  If you hit it wide to their backhand, then they are more likely to hit the ball to your backhand corner or to a spot that you can reach.

Sometimes as a change up as well you can play the ball slower, especially if you feel they are waiting for a fast shot.

Like most things it is focusing on spin, speed and placement as your tools.

I serve short bckspin and I usually the pivot then a fast attack to my opponents backhand. But sometimes my opponents realise that the ball will go  to their backhand 95% of the time.Should I mix up the attaxk down the line maybe 1 in 5 balls i am given or should i work on using more legs in my shot with a shorter stroke. To help me be ready for the next ball. And again thanks

Mixing up the direction is good.  The other spot that is useful is into their crossover.

You can either go for a big shot with a big swing or if you are thinking about recovery then use a shorter stroke.  Your legs are important always.  Try to remain balanced.
