Can we hit the ball when our opponent serve and it bounces on their side and then can we hit the ball before it bounces on my side?

Hi Jack,

You have to let the ball bounce on your side before you hit it.  If you hit it before it bounces while it is still over the table your opponent gets the point.

Hitting the Ceiling

When the ball hits the ceiling the point is over. You must hit the ball directly back onto the table otherwise you lose the point. In International tournaments the roof needs to be at least 5 metres above the playing surface but in local competitions you might often encounter much lower ceilings.
