Strategy
hi alois and jeff,
An opponent of mine uses lethal placement on his faster shots in such a way that there is almost no time to read it. as his stroke is very fast i cant see his rackets direction. he also uses the principles simon showed on the forehand down the line video to great effect!! how can i play against such a player? also he uses a very smooth rubber that is like antispin rubber . what do i do?
thanks a lot!
Hi Shripathi,
Watching the ball is your best clue as to where the ball is coming, If you watch the ball carefully you will be able to react as quickly as possible.
The more that yo play against a player the better you will get at reading where the ball is coming. You will start to pick up cues with his stroke. Yu should try to watch them pay as often as possible. Your brain will record this information when you are just watching them as well.
Question actions
When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
