Putting spins on double-bounces.

Serving

Hey, another question. I've been looking all over the net for tips on serving, and they say that the key is a short, souble-bounce service is the best, plus more wrist movement will do the job for more spin. But from my experience, if you hit a ball with a loose wrist, compared to hitting a ball with a slightly tighter grip, the tighter grip will get more spin. But that's not relaly the question I was getting at. I can get tons and tons of spin on reverse pendulum services, and those are the most effective services I've tried so far. But on the regular pendulum services, I can only get a reasonable amount of spin. But when I try to hit any harder to generate more spin, the ball goes too far for a double-bounce. And I've watched Ma Lins videos. He appears to be hitting really hard, but the spin is so much, it travels across the table and it's still a double-bounce service. But the problem I'm facing right now is getting a lot of spin in a double-bounce, regular pendulum service. Please give me some tips on this topic. Thanks. Chris.

Hi Christopher,

The key that you are looking for is the contact. To get the ball to stay short you need a finer contact on the ball while still maintaining a fast action.

Think of it this way, if you keep your bat coming through fast and start to adjust your contact from very flat or thick down to very fine, the ball will start to go shorter and shorter. Try this away from the table first as it will be less restricting.

So when you see Ma Lin hitting the ball hard, what you are seeing is his bat coming through really fast but he is getting a fine contact to make the ball bounce twice.

Just try it and see how you go with it.
