Hi Alois and Jeff,

First of all, Merry Christmas to you and Pingskills team.

Recently, I am practicing for a tournament preparation and I realized that my backhand strokes were more powerful than my forehand. Also, when I played matches with my friends, my backhand was more often used (pushes and topspins). Should I practice more for the backhand than the forehand?

Thank you,
Regards, Archel

Hi Archel,

Thanks for the wishes.

Very close to a tournament it is usually better to focus on things that are going to win you points.  It is difficult to make a lot of progress with your weaknesses so by focusing on your strengths you will practice things that you are going to use during the tournament.

Beating Defenders

Against defenders you've generally got a bit more time to make your attack and so you can be more selective on which ball to target. Think about finding your opponent's weaker side and whether they prefer a faster ball coming towards them or a slower ball. Try different spins, speed and placement! Alright I get it, thanks for the advice

Then how about the ball placement?
I applied a duck tape to my table (about 15 cm from the backhand court of my "opponent's" table) so that I have to hit the ball to that place only. My father recommended me doing that because he said that the backhand would be many players' weaknesses.

That is a good idea.
