Strokes
I have seen top players keeping their thumb perpendicular to the handle below the rubber emblems and in 45 degrees angle on the rubber slightly open some times. The same player uses two different positions for forehand. For example ma long and even zhang zike. On what type of forehand strokes do we need to change the thumb position. Please explain.

Thank you alois
While observing the top Chinese players in special I found them locking the thumb along with other three fingers for some forehand shots and opening it slightly away for some forehand shots. I will be specific on my question once I try both for some sessions and have an experience.
Thanks for the clarification and you have been great with your answers and clarifications.
