Point ending shot

Strokes

Hi Alois

I am a looper and try to be aggressive most of the time. But sometimes i just cant have the killer shot that wins a point outright.

For example, during a rally i keep on looping and they block and lob but i just cant end a shot effectively instead i just wait until they make a mistake.

I think a loop is the best option where a very good loop could actually make the opponent defenceless.

So i have 3 questions

When is it best to use the killer shot

Which stroke for which ball should be used

How to perform the stroke for the shot effectively

Many thanks

Mat

Hi Mat,

You can switch from the topspin to the smash when the ball gets up around shoulder height.  It is important to make sure you move into position to be able to make the smash effectively.

A lot of players will continue to make a topspin and just make the topspin faster off the higher ball.

Take a look at our lesson on the Forehand Smash.

Anticipation

How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.
