Hello Alois and Jeff

Today I had club intern match, two of opponents are playing with short pimples, is it same like long pimple which you explained in Premium lessons?

Because I got really confusing and lost, no matter how I much spin I played, they could easily make short or long push back,  or event sometimes blocked, when I push back or topspin back, the ball went always out of table.

Especially when they make fast backspin service on the edge of right or left side with short pimple, I really could not bring the ball on the table.

Can you give me some tips?

Hi Linda,

The main thing with short pimple is that it doesn't get as much spin as inverted rubber.  The short pimple will also flatten the spin out.  If you topspin to it and they block, you will find the ball coming back very flat and it will almost feel like backspin.

Take a look at our lesson on the Effects of Rubbers.  This will give you some handy tips as well.

Choosing a Table Tennis Bat

Make sure you buy a table tennis bat that is suitable for your level and allows you to develop your technique. For your first bat we recommend the PingSkills Rook, and when you upgrade to a custom bat we recommend the PingSkills Touch with Mark V or Rakza 7.
