Strategy
Hello Coach:
Last nite, I was playing against somebody who likes to play very close to the table, at the same time have cut the angle to my shots frecuently. I tried my best to return in a faster pace on my own shots as well as traying to put more topspins on them, but frustated anyway at the end, wonder if you have any others ideas in how to play against somebody like my opponent??? Thanks, Manuel in Montreal, Canada
Hi Manuel,
This type of player usually relies on your speed. It is best to mix the pace up. Often a slower topspin will be more effective than a faster one against this style.
Also think about a variation of the length of your shot. If you can play some topspins shorter and some longer it will draw some errors.

Hi Alois,I have a question about your answer, I can change speed easily and do more spinny topspin or faster topspin, but what are the basics about mixing up length without getting headache?, with forehand drive i can get a shorter ball slowing the pace, but what about topspin? trying to get more arc? what are your advices?
Thanks!
Hi Francisco,
Yes if you get more arc and a finer contact this will help. You can get the ball higher over the net too.
