Hello Alois,

In my club I am unable to play topspin against a chopper.

When he chops a long heavy backspin to my forehand it is tough for me to return the ball , when I topspin the ball it hits the net and I am also not able to push the ball.

And can you also suggest me some drills to play against a chopper. I also practice with him everyday.

Can you please help me. And I am a big fan of you.

Hi Rohan,

It sounds like he may be a good chopper that is able to generate a lot of spin.

If the ball is going into the net, make your stroke more vertical and increase the speed of your swing.  This will help to lift the ball.

Also make sure that your rubber still has grip.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
