hi, I have a table tennis tournament day after tomorrow. I have made my plans to defeat anyone but I have a problem. One of my friends, who is also in the tournament is a great player. My problem is that whenever I chop the ball, he also chops the ball and the chopping goes on and on and at last most of the times I lose the point and if by mistake I give even a little high ball he smashes it at a speed which I cannot defend. So what can I do in this situation. Please reply me as fast as possible. Thanks in advance.

Hi Abhinav,

The best thing would be to make the attack earlier in the rally.  If you wait too long in the rally it is more difficult to get into a position to make an attacking ball.

Tactics Against Penhold Players

When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
