Penhold Strokes

Strokes

I am relatively new to table tennis, I play mostly with my brother and one friend, and since I started I have been using the classic shakehand grip.  When I play, I find that I really favor my forehand (backhand is weak, but I am trying to improve it) I watched your video on how to hold the paddle, and when you explained the advantages of the penhold, that you tend to get more spin from it, I decided to give it a shot.  So far, I like it!  I feel a lot more control, although I still miss regularly because I haven't adjusted for the different angles yet.  That will develop in time I know.  So my question is though, with the penhold, do the strokes change at all.  Every video I've seen you demonstrate the strokes with the shakehand,  is there any difference with the penhold?  I'm guessing not, but would love to know if there are other things I should be adjusting for.

Thanks!

Hi Dalton,

Take a look at this lesson we have on Youtube, Penhold Techniques for Table Tennis.  This will show you some differences but also the many similarities.

Banana Flick

The banana flick has become one of the most important returns in table tennis. It allows you to attack almost any short ball and places your opponent under immediate pressure. Still it is a difficult stroke that takes a lot of practice to master.
