Hi ping skills sorry

if im annoying you with my questions. Anyway so all my life playing

table tennis ive been playing shakehand and im a player that likes to use a lot of topspin and recently ive been making the transition to penhold because I feel I just cant get enough topspin with the shakehand. Is this a good choice and what are some pros and cons.

Hi Evan,

Don't be sorry, we love talking table tennis.

That is a big step to change to penhold.  I would work more on your topspin with the shakehand grip and see if you can get more spin.  It isn't the grip that is the problem here it is more likely something that you can fix with your technique.

Try relaxing your wrist and using it more through the stroke to generate more spin.

But having said that if you are set on changing to penhold go for it and give it a try. If it doesn't work you can always change back.
