How can you tell if you are overtraining. Recently i have started running twice a week and doing an all body workout twice a week on top of my table tennis. Am i overdoing it?

Hi Thomas,

You need to monitor yourself each day.

Things that will indicate that you are overtraining are, you are not able to sleep properly even though you are tired. You may also start to get a lot of niggling injuries. You may find that you are not enjoying your training and see it as a chore.

Often if you think that you are overtraining, then you are.

If your body feels good and you are fresh and enjoying the training then keep it up.

#30 - Flick and Long Fast Push

By throwing in some unexpected long returns you will keep your opponent off balance and this will make each short push you do so much more effective. That's why it's important to be able to return long. You've got 2 options. You can flick the ball or push it long and fast. This week our focus is on these types of returns.

I think that from this perspective the most tough TT exercices are footwork ones. They are (often) anaerobic and require one to do its best. How many footwork drills a week one may do without harming himself?

Hi Ilia,

This will depend on the strength of the player.

To start with you may only do one per session.  The top players would do 3 or 4 footwork drills per session.

It is important to keep monitoring yourself.
