Hi , I have a problem in my FH Topspin . While I practice , my practice parters says that my topspin have no spin at all and they are just like flat balls that anyone can smash easily . I have also tried to improve but I am unable to generate a good kind of spin . So can you please give me some tips on how to generate more spin in my FH Topspin .

Hi Tushar,

What you need to make sure you are doing is our 3 step process of any stroke.  Think about your feet, the start position, and finish position of the stroke.  With the topspin you also need to think about the contact of the bat on the ball.  You need to brush the ball on contact.  The easiest way to start with is to start with a more vertical stroke that will force you to brush the ball.  So by starting down lower and finishing higher you are coming across the flight of the ball.  If you contact the ball finely in this path you will generate good spin.

Take a look at our lesson on the Forehand Topspin Against Block and the Forehand Topspin Off Backspin for more tips.

Hi Tushar,

The first thing you need to ensure is that you have a decent rubber on your bat which will allow you to generate spin. If the rubber has no grip you won't be able to get a lot of spin even with a perfect technique. What bat are you using at the moment and how long have you had it?

Hey Tushar!

One of the most important thing in the forehand Topspin stroke is your wrist. There you got the most spin and very much power. So when you do the forehand topspin you need to brush the ball (as alois said) and move your wrist foreward in a almost vertical angle. Und ich bin auch deutsch xD

Hey thanks Lukas Oberbanscheidt , your advice ia also appreciated and I will surely apply it in my practice sessions . I am thinking to apply AURUS in my forehand as it is advised by my coach and few seniors .

Tom Goodwin

Tom Goodwin Posted 11 years ago

go for a xiom vega europe on your forehand it is a good rubber for controll and you can find it for £25 in some places it is a good replacement for tenergy rubbers but more than half the price and last almost twice as long

Thanks Tom , I really appreciate it , but why not aurus . I need a such a kind of rubber that is more controlled and also contain speed

Lukas Oberbanscheidt

Lukas Oberbanscheidt Posted 11 years ago

When you want speed and control you must buy donic acuda s1 or donic acuda S1 Turbo. With S1 you have a realy fast rubber with much control.with s1 Turbo you have a realy spinny and fast rubber. Like Andro rasant. Take a look at these three rubbers in the web. Hope this helps, Lukas.

Tom Goodwin

Tom Goodwin Posted 11 years ago

they are all good rubbers choose any and im sure you will improve a lot I would change the backhand aswell if you werent planning on doing so as playing with a new rubber on one sida and an old rubber on the other takes a lot of getting used to

Lukas Oberbanscheidt

Lukas Oberbanscheidt Posted 11 years ago

Yes as Tom recommended on the backhand its good to change your rubber oftener than the forehand because the crossover point. The angle of the backhand is bigger than the angle of the forehand. So you must use your backhand more than the forehand.

Thanks a lot guys for helping me out of this confusion for my rubber selection for my Forehand . I am currently searching them all and will surely tell you guys which one I am opting . Can you also help me for my selection for Backhand Rubber , I require a controlled but spinny rubber  as I generally do blocking , pushing and serve from my Backhand . So speed is not a issue .

Lukas Oberbanscheidt

The best rubbers for your backhand are Andro Hexer Duro, Tibhar genius optimum or Donic Schildkröt energy QRC (my Rubber on both sides its really cheap)
