Receiving

Hi Alois,

I noticed an untypical stroke when receiving - starting from backhand finishing on forehand -

like the one that is played here https://youtu.be/6B9loBc1DPI?t=429

Is it anything one should try to copy in amateur level and what is it actually good for ?

Thanks,

Regards

Josef

Hi Josef,

This is an interesting variation of a long push.  It is basically a long push with sidespin.  Try it out and see if it works for you.

You need to use it as a surprise tactic otherwise it will be too easy to attack.

Judging the Length of a Serve

A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.

Looks like something halfway between a long push and a banana flick (bat goes upwards) that helps her lifting the ball over the net (the serve seams to have a bit of backspin).

Nice match by the way, thanks for sharing! You know you'll see something interesting when the video is 55 minutes long. Smiling players, even a little playful at times (especially Renata), attacking style, and for once no Tchooooing! So pleasurable to watch. Will try to find more matches of these ladies.
