Hi i have a question about my table Tennis Equipment. So currently i am playing the Blade Donic Person Power Play and my forhand Rubber Is Tibhar Genius Optimum+ and on Backhand is Donic Bluestorm Turbo Z1. So i am by myself a Player that in the past reliead a lot in control in table tennis with Controlled Attack and i was also a excellent blocking Player my Trainer even Told me that i am Elite in blocking. But now over the years I see that i now Not really try to Block anymore in Matches because IT Limits my celling most of the time i Go for counter topspin If its possible also i am using topspins with early timing especially on my Backhand i use a short Stroke with early Timing and on forhand less but also sometimes. And i feel that If the ball has No Energy It Is a dead ball i can Not generate Speed with the backhand i feel No Matter what i do. The only Thing i could do was big Rotation and thats It but this do not suit my Game. So i Heard this could be the limitation of my blade because of its hardnes and stiffness and also that its a moderate Speed Blade. Also even If i try to Punch the ball with the backhand the ball feels that it has no crisp its very slow somehow and i dont understand it and the same for early Backhand Attacks. Maybe you could Tell me more about my blade and the Equipment i use and also maybe explain me the limitations because in the Internet its difficult to understand they Just Tell me its a moderate offensive Blade but my trainer Said It Limits my Game. So could you maybe recomend for my playing Style right now a Blade that is much faster but also has good Control and you also think It would suite better and also AS i sad could you also Tell me If my Trainer IS right about the limitations of my Blade for Close to table Play and early Timing my Rubber should be fine ?

Your trainer is probably right. The Donic Persson Powerplay is a classic 5-ply allround-offensive blade. It has good feel and control, but it is relatively flexible and not very crisp. That type of blade works well for blocking and spin play, but it can struggle to create speed on dead balls, especially with early timing and punchy backhand strokes. What you describe, no power when the incoming ball has little energy, is a typical limitation of softer, flexier blades.

Your rubbers are not the problem. Genius Optimum+ and Bluestorm Z1 Turbo are already fast and dynamic. If the ball still feels slow and dull on backhand punches, the blade is the bottleneck. A stiffer, faster composite blade would give more rebound and a clearer, crisper contact, which suits counter-topspin and early timing much better.

For your style, close to the table, short backhand stroke, counter rather than block, look for these characteristics: outer composite, medium to hard feeling, offensive plus speed, not too thick handle for quick wrist use.

Blades that would fit you well:

  • Donic Original True Carbon Inner or Outer

  • Tibhar Stratus Carbon

  • Butterfly Viscaria or Timo Boll ALC

  • Xiom Hugo HAL or Xiom Ice Cream AZX

  • Donic Waldner Senso Carbon (faster than your current but still controlled)

Any of these will give more direct power on dead balls and better punch on backhand without losing too much control.

You do not need to change rubbers at first. Keep Bluestorm Z1 Turbo on backhand and Genius Optimum+ on forehand. Put them on a faster blade and you will immediately feel more catapult and crispness.

In short, your blade is designed for control and spin, not for modern early counter game. Moving to a faster composite blade will raise your ceiling and support the way you want to play now.
