Hi Lukas,

He bases his game around his strong forehand.  He uses his forehand topspin to win most of his points.  When the ball comes to his backhand he will make a solid flat shot or perhaps put a bit of topspin if he has more time but then he will try to get around to use his forehand as much as possible.

His serves set up his forehand well.  He varies his serves to set up the opportunities to play strong strokes on the next few balls.  Like most of the Chinese national team his footwork and balance is impeccable allowing him to get into positions to make the forehand.

Like with all the top players they know what their strengths are and try to create as many opportunities to use this as possible in the match.  He makes it look all so simple doesn't he?

Hi Alois,

Would you say Zhang Jike has a similar backhand platying style as Ma Long?

I think Zhang Jike uses his backhand topspin a bit more and isn't so reliant on his forehand.

Yes, he does :D but how can he do that flat hit onheiß backhand with such a fast rubber like tenergy 64?

That comes down to skill.  The top players can use the faster rubbers because they have developed control.

Actually it isnt flat at all, flat its just a word for "no so much spin" at pro level...
