Dear Coach,

Do you have to use penhold to do the Ma Lin Serve or can you use shakehand?

Hi Kevin,

You can use a modified shakehand grip.  What you need to do is take the three fingers away from the handle and put them behind the handle and make a fist with them.  So now you are controlling the bat with just your thumb and forefinger.  This will allow you to use your wrist better and therefore generate more spin.
