I have a 14' x 26' room I'm turning into my table tennis room. I have carpet over concrete right now and I understand the carpet is hard on knees and ankles twisting.  I'm looking to spend 2 to 4 dollars per sq ft on new flooring material. I don't want tile, wood or laminate because I would like something softer for my knees.  I've looked at flexible PVC tiles or rubber interlocking floor tiles 18" x 18" x 1/4" as a possibility. Currently I'm leaning toward vinyl plank flooring with a cushioned backing. They snap into place but I'm not sure how well it might stand up to rigorous play. Any suggestions?

Hi Phil,

I have put down battens on the concrete and then wood on top of that but it was more expensive.

I think the rubberised floor tiles are ok as long as they are stable enough and won't move when you are moving and pushing off fast.

The vinyl plank with the cushion back may be the best option.

Others with more experience of flooring may be able to help you here as well.
