Hello. Can you please let me know how effective looping is with medium pips on either the forehand or backhand?

Hi Eric,

If you are really looking for a strong loop then medium pimples isn't the bed away to go.

However, if you are looking for a change up then the loop with the long pimples can be effective.  The ball will come through slower than with an inverted rubber and also have less spin.  A player that isn't used to seeing this ball will have difficulty with it.  This can be a really effective change up.

Tactics Against Penhold Players

When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
