Sorry, yet another question!

When I see demonstration of long/fast serves on youtube, they invariably serve to the two corners of the table. Now, I can see why you would definitely want to include long serves to the corners as a part of any service arsenal, but wouldn't you normally be serving fast serves to the opponent's armpit? (i.e. the changeover zone between forehand and backhand) One would think this would be the most effective placement for a fast serve.

Thanks

Ji-Soo

P.S. I realised after I wrote my earlier question on doubles table tennis that I had actually read the stuff about hitting down the line from pingskills, and not from my book! Sorry about that, it's hard to keep track when you are getting info from so many sources all the time.

Hi Ji-Soo,

The Crossover is definitely an option for the long fast serve. You need to keep all the options open including the corners. If your opponent can guess where the long serve is coming it become a very easy return for them. Eespecially if they can read the one into the middle they don't need to move too much and have lots of options with the placement of the return.

But always keep the crossover as one of the options.

Regarding the doubles it is great to see you getting information from a lot of sources and thanks for sharing some of what you have learned with us.
