When using long pips what is the proper stroke to use against another long pips no spin ( dead) return assuming you are not going to twiddle to the inverted side? Should this stroke be only defensive or can it be use more offensively?

Thank you,

Hi Jeremiah,

If you have pushed initially with backspin then the ball will come back to you with topspin.  This will be a little harder to attack with the long pimples as the ball will come out of your bat with a little backspin and tend to sail off the end.

If you start with topspin to the long pimples and then get a backspin ball back, it will be easier to attack that ball because the ball will come out of your pimples with topspin and you can hit through the ball.

If it is a flat ball then you can attack it with a faster racket head speed and lifting it with an upward movement of your racket.

So it depends a lot on the spin that is coming to you.

I think your first two paragraphs refer to a ball hit with inverted. My question was referring to a ball hit with long pips (no spin) to another long pips (no spin).

Does the following apply if you are attacking with your long pips?

"If it is a flat ball then you can attack it with a faster racket head speed and lifting it with an upward movement of your racket."

Hi Jeremiah,

Yes that does apply.  Also the previous two paragraphs were referring to the ball before the long pips hits.  Initially in the rally you may hit the ball with the inverted and then when they hit it with the long pips it will have a different effect for you to deal with as the spin effect stays on the ball.
