Hello Alois, Jeff

Just wanted to know if there are players who have a particular choice between Light and Heavy Rackets?

The reason I am asking this question is: I have been using a Locally Made GKI Racket for almost 8 months since I started Playing and just a month back invested in Joola Ply with Mark V and phantom 007. The moment I changed the equipment I found a considerable change in my Play (for worst) as my hand was used to comparative heavy equipment and now having a lighter Racket I am having a problem in my game. I have waited patiently for a month just to see if I can get used to the lighter equipments however so far it's not successful.

Shall I take out Mark V and phantom 007 Rubbers from Joola Ply and fix it on to a Locally Made Heavy Ply of GKI to get heavy equipment? Will this work?

Do advise!

Cheers!

Rohan

Hi Rohan,

Equipment is always a matter of personal preference especially with weight.  It will just have to be a matter of putting the rubber on the heavier racket and trying it out.

I prefer light rackets but others prefer it to be heavier.

Is it true that with lighter racket it is easier to generate more spin on the serve by utilizing the wrist? My one is pretty heavy, so I find that its weight limits my wrist action a little bit.

Not necessarily.  Sometimes with a heavier racket once you get it moving, it will give you more speed.  Personally I like the lighter racket but others like a heavier racket.  Just see which one feel right for you.
