Inconsistent blocking

Strokes

My blocking is very slow and loopy.  It is very inconsistent as well.  I was always very good and confident on blocking, but ever since I changed my racket about an year back my blocking has become very inconsistent, slow and loopy.  I am using Yasaka Mark-V 2.0 on FH and 1.8 on BH on Stiga ARC blade.  Please help me if I need to improvise my technique or the rubber-blade combination is not right.  I am basically an all round player with good FH and BH topspin close to table and at mid distances.

Hi Joyotosh,

If the block is getting loopy, think about a flatter contact and pushing through the ball more on contact.  This should give the ball a more direct path.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
