Hi Coach,

Thanks to your lessons and tips on consistency and finish position i am able to make long rallies of fh/bh counterhit drills. Fh topspin against is the most improved shot of all.

However when it comes to rallies of bh topspin against block, i am not all consistent. I am still not able to pick up the finish position of this shot. It is above eye level but is it a vertical swing to the top of the head or a bit curvy swing which finishes above eye level more towards the right shoulder. I hope i am making sense and not confusing you.

Can you take me through this shot again? Also do i need to brush the ball on top or from behind the ball?

Hi Shaji,

It is great to hear your consistency has increased in some areas.

The finish position for the backhand topspin is at around head or shoulder height and at the side of your body.

As you get better you can make the stroke more horizontal and swing through more with your wrist. For consistency to start with though get it finishing in that at head height. You don't need to change the angle of your racket through the stroke.

Hi Jeff,

I would like to share today's score of consistency.

Fh counterhit = 74(i.e. 148 times in total)
Bh counterhit = 51
FH topspin vs block = 21
BH topspin vs block = 10(highest till now)

It roughly takes half an hour or so to complete these shots before moving onto the week's training session. Should i practice these shots till the time i reach the score i have set for each of them or follow the training program strictly?

In the second week Alois has told us to do 200 continuous forehand topspins vs block, and i am nowhere near that figure. My partner is not so good in blocking the ball as his blocks are not always on the forehand side(in my comfort zone) of the table, many times he falters and his blocks are on the backhand side or too cross court. Thats why my rallies for forehand topspins are not more than 30-40.
It would take a few days to reach the target of 200. Is it homework incomplete?

Hi Shaji,

Work to achieve as many as you can.  If you don't reach 200 you will have to keep working on it but you can move on.
