Improving forehand topspin against backspin

Strokes

Hi Alois;

Currently I am having some issues with my forehand topspin against chop. My main problem is consistency; as many either go into the net or off the end, so should try and hit the ball harder to make the spin have less effect or are there other ways?

Also; every time I do a forehand topspin against backspin, it is always slow and spinny and I want to try and add variation to this, how do you propose I do this?

Thanks.

Hi Sam,

It is better to brush the ball finely.  This will get the ball spinning int he direction you want it to.

Once you get the feel for the amount of spin on the ball then you can start to increase the speed of the stroke.  This will increase the speed of the ball.  You can also start to flatten out the contact slightly to get more speed.

Getting better against chop take s a lot of work.  I think multiball is a great way to practice it because you will be able to get a lot of hits against backspin in a short amount of time.
