Training
hi alois and jeff
my forehand topspin is really strong during training and matches, it is my main strength. However, my backhand is so bad compared to my forehand, I cant topspin or counter topspin during a game without losing the point, only drive and block. I can barely hit ten clean topspins in a row without missing.
How can I make my backhand topspin as strong and consistent as my forehand?
I know your gonna say just practice, but could you tell me what drills and excersise i should do ?
thank you :)
Hi Tom,
You are certainly right, I am going to say practice because that is the answer. Theer is no simple way.
As far as drills, it doesn't really matter, so long as you are hitting a lot of backhands consistently. I would start with just hitting the backhand consistently on the table. Get the consistency up so that you are able to hit 50 ball confidently.
Try doing the 2 Backhand footwork drill or 2 backhands, one forehand drill or even just the backhand, forehand footwork drill.
Sorry, but practice, practice and more practice. Good luck with it.
Question actions
Playing forehand and backhand strokes individually in practice is an important step in your development but to use them effectively in a game situation you must be able to switch between them. This sounds like a simple step but it's something you must practice. Lesson 10 focuses on ensuring you can quickly switch between your backhand and forehand table tennis strokes.
