Strokes
Hi PingSkills
how wide should I open my feet?
a lot of people said that it's depend on the height, the taller one should open the feet wide and the shorter one should narrower
some people also said that all players should open the feet very wide to move fast and make a good stroke
so which one is true? or do you have your own opinion?
as I try to make the stance be comfortable for me to move and to make a stroke
Hi Frendy,
Think about it as being about 1.5 to 2 times the width of your shoulders. This is the same for all players whether you are tall or short. This will get you into a good balanced position but also allow you to engage your legs to be able to move faster.
Also take a look at our lesson on the Basic Stance.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.

Hi coach. It's been a while since the last time I could practice regularly. Recently I've got an opportunity to join a new club.
My new coach recognized my rather wide basic stance, and he insists that I should have narrower stance. What are the advantages and disadvantages between those two?

I've also been told to narrow my stance but bend my knees more to keep at the same height, and keep my weight more on the front of the feet. The theory being that if the stance is too wide, it takes too long to get your weight moving.
