Strategy
Hi there, coaches
I see a lot of people playing whom have all mastered their fh counterhit, topspin and out of 1000 balls make only one mistake. However these people are not world-class members so I was wondering that is it that Timo Boll, Vladimir Samsonov, Zhang Jike and Ma Long have that they lack.
Hi Oliver,
There is more to the game than just forehands and backhands. There is also match strategy, mental strength and being able to read where the ball is going.
Most of the top players have similar ability in their strokes. It often comes down to being able to serve short or place the ball where you want to at a crucial stage.
This doesn't come easily and even some of the top players are better than others at doing all of these things.
Use a long push or a flick to open up the game against someone who is beating you at the short game. It might not be your favourite way to play but if you are losing the short game you need to mix things up. In the long run you certainly need to improve your own short game.
