Sir,

I usually play table tennis in the indoor sports complex of our college. But nowadays when I try to return a fast serve, the ball just flies out of the table which has a match losing weakness of mine. So I needed your guidance on this matter. How can really return these type of serves effectively?

With regards,

Bhushan

Hi Bhushan,

You need to relax your hand.  Just allow the ball to hit the bat rather than trying to push forward on it.  There will be enough momentum on the ball to get it back over the net.  So then you just need to focus on the type of spin on the ball and angle your bat appropriately to get the ball back low over the net.

Fake Movements

After the ball has left the server's bat, they can no longer affect the spin that is on the ball. Any movements after the contact are referred to as fake movements and are meant to confuse you as the receiver. You need to focus on the contact to read the spin.
