Strokes
If the ball comes to me with slice?
If the ball comes to me fast?
If the ball comes to me slow but with no space to shot fast?
And its ok to respond a fast shot with backhand and moving the raquet up to down like putting a little of slice?
Sorry if my grammar is bad :( but my first language is spanish thanku :)
Hi Andres,
In general it is better to be on the attack in the rally. So on all of those options it is best ot try and make a topspin attack.
The type of shot you make is a little different. We have lessons on each of these options.
Against backspin use the Forehand Topspin Off Backspin.
Against a fast ball use the Topspin to Topspin technique
Against a slower ball use the Forehand Topspin Against Block.
The main difference is that the stroke has different trajectories. The more backspin on the ball the more vertical your stroke becomes. The more topspin on the ball you receive the more horizontal the stroke can be.
You can return a fast shot with slice. This is called a chop. Take a look at this lesson we have on this stroke called the Backhand Chop.
How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.
