Hi!

I was wondering how much wrist you should use in your backhand and forehand topspin.

I usually use a little wrist and much arm, but my coach says I that I should use my wrist only, is that true?

Thank you!

Hi Chris,

To start with you don;t need to use to omuch wrist to deveop your stroke.  Once you progress though especially for the backhand you can use a lot of wrist.  This will help you to develop more topspin.

The wrist is faster than using your forearm or upper arm to generate the speed of racket so that you can get more spin.

Definitely echo Alois' comment.

The use of the wrist gives a lot of subtle variations to backhand strokes that can make it a real weapon.  You can often surprise people with the amount of spin off a backhand using the wrist, and you can also use the wrist to augment the arm to add some oomph to your power strokes as well.
