Pls tell me how to punch the ball when opponent plays a smash on my backhand and when I am standing close to table. my confusion is that when to punch the ball and how to hold the bat when playing this shot..

Hi Vansh,

You keep the same grip.

The mechanics of the punch are shown in our lesson in the Advanced Strokes section on how to Counter a Slow Spinny Topspin.

Against a faster ball you don't need to move your bat forward as much and you can allow the speed of the incoming shot to be the pace of the shot for you.
