Forehand loop

Strokes

HI, just a query. A coach told me recentl while I am performing my topspin loop away from the table, I have 2 problems.

 1) I only used my arms and did not utilise the shifting of weight from my left leg to right leg.( I am left-handed).

 2) More serious problem. I tend to use a lot of my upper arm when I attempt and aim for more spin and power. As a result, my stroke goes up instead of going forward and just utilising the lower part of the arm. As a result, my ending position of my bat always differs.

 Any advice? many thanks.

Hi JinMeng,

You do have the ability to use more body the further away from the table you get.  With the extra time, you can start to incorporate the legs and waist.  You do not need to use too much of your upper arm.  It is just a slight lengthening of the stroke that you would normally use.  You can go a little more forward but just use the arm in a similar way you would with the closer to the table stroke.

Thank you. Is there any practice drills I can perform to reduce the varied nature and the differing follow up positions of my bat after doing forehand loops?

Just do a lot of repetitive training of the stroke.  It will get better.
