Hello coach,

I am getting very good with my forehand counterstrike but i am trying to groove it into a forehand topspin against backspin but i have three questions:

1-Do I wait until my counter strike become very consistent and aimed then groove it to a loop or do i have to switch between them in training

2-How to grove my counter strike into a loop step by step

3-When to use counter strike and when to use loop while playing

I have an assumption I don't know is it right or wrong, that as time passes and players get professional they use loops only and never use counterstrikes.

Hi Mohammad,

I think if you are comfortable with the counterhit then you can start to learn the topspin and loop or topspin against backspin.

Take a look through the lessons on the Forehand Topspin Against Block and the Forehand Topspin Off Backspin.

In a match situation as you develop you don’t really use the counterhit but use the topspin strokes.

When they give you  backspin ball, you can use the loop and when they give you a block of topspin ball you can use the topspin against block stroke.

For me I don't find it as simple. Sometimes if the rally goes in an unexpected manner, I tend to stick in that counterhit exchanges, especially when I'm out of position. Sometimes during those rallies I suddenly "recall" that I have a topspin and I play it. But I wish I could have a sharper "topspin instinct".

Keep practicing the topspin in training and it will become more instinctive.
