Forehand counter hit- face position

Strokes

Hi !

On your forehand counter hit video, you state that the face of the bat needs to be pointing in the direction you want the ball to go. In the video, Jeff is hitting cross court, but if he wanted to hit down the line, how would he get the face of the bat to go in that direction? In my mind, he can 1) cup his wrist making the face of the bat go down the line, (if the wrist is flat, and so pointed inward, and the stance is square, the face must be aimed to the left) or 2) open his stance (or body) more. This has never been clear in my mind on how to do this.

Sorry to be a pain!

Hi Bob,

On contact the bat needs to be facing in the direction you want the ball to go.  To get the ball down the line you can hit the ball a little earlier in the swing when your bat is facing more down the line.  You can also turn your wrist back slightly.
