Strategy
There was a TT tournament in my country(Oman). Well I participated and won, but unfortunately our school team was out in the first round as other players lost both matches badly. My opponent was very good. He used a special shot against me. I used the reverse pendulum serve against him, but he waited for the ball to pitch in his court and he hit the ball very high. I waited to smash, but the moment the ball pitches, it spins nearly 90 degree towards my right. He won two sets with me only by this spin.(It was a 5 set match). He also used this trick during rallies. What shot is this how do I play against this?
I use a short pimpled bat.
Hi Aravind,
It sounds like you were getting all of your spin back to you form your serve.
In that situation if it is giving you a problem it is better to make your serves more simple. Putting straight backspin or topspin on them.
If the ball comes back to you high with spin you still need to topspin the ball and lift it to get it over the net, even if it is up high because the backspin they are getting on the ball will drag it down.
Most table tennis rallies last just 3.4 shots. So if you want to win more matches, you need to master the short game! In this episode of the PingSkills Show, you’ll learn why the short game is so important and how to control the first few shots to stop your opponent from attacking first.
Whether you’re struggling with your short push, not sure when to flick, or want to stop giving away easy attacks, this video will help you play smarter.
