Hi,

Many people have said that Ding ning is better than feng tianwei technically but I am not too sure how to observe. Having watched yesterday's match, could you give me a deep insight on the technical aspect on how ding ning is better than feng tian wei? Many thanks.

Hi JinMeng,

Sometimes it is not even a matter of technique but mental strength or belief in their own ability.

Ding Ning plays a little further from the table with more spin whereas Feng Tianwei plays a little closer and faster and more forward on the ball.

Ding Ning may be fast and powerful with her strokes and that fact that she is a left hander she has the basic advantage over most of her opponents who are generally right handed players.  I just watched more of the women TT matches lately and I must admit that Feng Tianwei is one of the best players in the world.  I think she has more experience and stamina especially in decisive situtations (perhaps a few years older than Ding Ning) and her strokes and footwork are more solid and consistent.  You won't see many wild swings or misses from her.  She has been regarded as the Houdini in women TT I guess because she can outwit her opponents in the long run by constantly changing her tactics.  You often find that she would trail her opponent by 1-2 games before she made a strong comeback.  Her serve receiving skills are also quite good.  I think she is an allround player who is very hard to beat.
