Feet Coming Off The Floor

Strokes

Hi Coaches,

I recently watched a video by Brian Pace and he claimed that in an ideal forehand loop the feet should be off the floor at the point of contact.  When I watch the pros play matches, I can see that their feet are indeed often in the air when they hit the ball.  However, when I watch guys like Ma Long do footwork drills in training or even just warming up FH Loops, their feet are very stable and maintain contact with the floor.  I'm sure that the feet coming off the floor is just a way to add more power, but at what level do you think I should start practicing this, if I should practice it at all?

Thanks!

Hi Daniel,

Keep contact with the floor.  The balance is more important at this stage.  Only when you are playing a really fast winning shot you can think about jumping during your stroke sometimes.
