Hi Alois!

Can you tell a serve with an effective spin? I tried to make serves with topspin and sidespin but usually they are not very effective. Then I tried to make a simple backspin serve on my backhand but very often I am losing the point. My coach said that I have an advantage if I am serving and then I should win the point with an effective serve. Please tell me 2 or 3 effective serves that I should learn.

Hi Nasko,

Try the Pendulum serve and the Tomahawk serve.  You can get a lot of information on these from our Serving Secrets Revealed DVD.  We have put a lit of information into these DVDs for players just like you.

But what spin should I use?

Experiment and try to do a few spins.  Start with the sidespin and then try to get some backspin with it as well.  Do this for both serves.

Thank you for this answer Alois. I try them yesterday because that was my first opportunity to play tennis since you answered my question. They are great! My opponent never attacks it because I place it on different parts of the table and because of the backspin. Also the sidespin makes the ball more difficult for my opponent to return.

That is good to hear.  Well done.
